Should Bank Employees work without Lunch? Customer creates chaos in Bank

Again, a bank customer created chaos in a bank over the lunch break. The customer visited a branch of Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank and asked the bank staff to withdraw cash during lunch hours. The staff tried to explain the situation and calm him down, but he allegedly started misbehaving with the employees, including female staff members.

According to reports, the customer had not operated his account for more than two years. When a bank account remains inactive for over two years, it becomes dormant as per RBI guidelines. In such cases, the bank must complete the customer’s KYC, reactivate the account, and only then allow cash withdrawals.

However, the customer was reportedly not willing to listen. He argued that bank employees are not entitled to a lunch break and claimed that, according to RBI guidelines, all employees should not take lunch together. He created a scene inside the branch, recorded the entire incident on his mobile phone, and later uploaded the video on social media. Watch video below.

The incident has once again raised the issue of lunch breaks for bank employees. The RBI and banks should consider providing a fixed lunch break for bank staff. In many branches, only two employees are available. In such cases, it is not practical for them to take lunch one after another. Even if one employee continues working while the other takes a break, customers may still have to wait for around 30 minutes.

Moreover, this may not be practical because banks follow the four-eye principle, under which one employee processes a transaction and another employee verifies it before it is completed. This system makes it difficult for a single employee to handle many banking transactions alone during the lunch break.

Lunch Break Incident in SBI

A customer visited an SBI branch and created chaos over lunch break. During lunch hours, he argued that the bank should have arranged another employee to handle customers while the concerned staff member was on a break. Watch video below 👇

What made the situation more concerning was that the customer reportedly went upstairs to the area where employees were having their lunch and created a disturbance. Such behavior is not acceptable and shows a lack of respect for bank staff.

Bank employees deal with hundreds of customers every day and perform a wide range of tasks, including cash transactions, account opening, loan processing, government scheme implementation, digital banking support, compliance work, and customer service. Despite this heavy workload, many bank branches across the country are facing severe staff shortages.

The public should understand that if a particular service is delayed or requires multiple visits, there may be genuine reasons behind it. Certain banking processes require verification, approvals, documentation checks, or technical clearances. Not every issue can be resolved immediately.

Lunch breaks are a basic necessity for every working professional. Employees in government offices, private companies, schools, hospitals, factories, and other workplaces are entitled to lunch breaks. Bank employees are no different. Expecting them to work continuously without food or rest is neither practical nor fair.

Mutual respect is essential for maintaining a healthy environment in bank branches. Customers deserve good service, and bank employees deserve dignity and respect while performing their duties. Creating chaos, disturbing staff during lunch breaks, or behaving aggressively is not the solution.
