Senior advocate Vimal Prakash Taran has reported to the Superintendent of Police (SP) that he has been receiving death threats. The 70-year-old lawyer, who has been practicing law and working as an income tax consultant for 47 years, claimed that a BJP leader and a government official are behind these threats.
According to Taran, the issue dates back to a large financial transaction in 2015-16. Halkeram Kushwaha, an account holder at the Collector branch of the District Cooperative Bank, had a transaction of Rs 94 crore 50 lakh 320. This caught the attention of the Income Tax Department, which issued a notice and a tax assessment order in the 2021-22 financial year. Following this, Kushwaha’s account was seized.
The case attracted media attention, and journalists approached Taran for more details. Taran mentioned that he had suggested that authorities such as the Reserve Bank, Income Tax Department, and CBI investigate the matter, but he did not accuse anyone of wrongdoing.
However, Taran went on to allege that the BJP leader involved in the case has a criminal background. He further claimed that the leader’s name had appeared in two suicide notes. Given the seriousness of the threats, Taran has requested the police to provide protection for his life and property.
