Starting from November 13, 2024, the State Bank of India (SBI) branches in Jaipur will change their operating hours. Currently, the branches are open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. However, from November 13 onward, the new timings will be from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Additionally, to make banking more convenient for customers, some SBI branches will now be open on Sundays. This is especially helpful for people who are busy during the week and need to visit the bank on weekends. For employees who work on Sundays, they will be given a compensatory day off on Fridays, ensuring they still get their time off. These changes are being made to improve customer service and meet the growing needs of the market, allowing more flexibility for customers to visit the bank.
- Extended Evening Service: The new timings (11 AM to 5 PM) extend the bank’s operational hours into the evening, providing more flexibility for customers who may not be able to visit the bank during regular morning hours. This could benefit working professionals or others with daytime commitments.
- Sunday Openings: Some branches will remain open on Sundays, which is a big convenience for customers who might not be able to visit the bank on weekdays. This is especially helpful for people who work regular hours during the week and need weekend access to banking services.
- Improved Customer Service: The changes are designed with the aim of improving service, indicating that the bank is prioritizing customer needs. Keeping branches open on Sundays shows a customer-first approach.
- Staff Compensatory Leave: By offering compensatory leave on Fridays to staff working on Sundays, SBI is making sure that employees are not overburdened. This ensures a balance between providing customer service and staff welfare.
- Adapting to Market Needs: The changes take into account market dynamics and the evolving banking needs of customers. By keeping pace with these trends, SBI can stay competitive and relevant in the market.

I have a different idea. Instead of branch concept, we need a change to cluster and nodes. Now you can have cash transaction, other financial transactions, non-financial transactions as well as updates at any node instead of home branch. Now any transactions and updates including initiation as well as execution are tracked with system and user specific. It gives a big relief to customers as well as planning of staff deployment and time management. People can come in shifts like few will join at 06:00 to 14:00, 09:00 to 05:00, 12:00 to 08:00 and 03:00 to 11:00 or may be round the clock in shift. Central monitoring of login is very effective. These clusters and node will be only service points for liability products and customer data updations. For assets management present centralised processing ensures processing standards and TAT.
Sunday is Sunday. No other day can take its place for various reasons. I think with the digitalization of transactions happening, the need for visiting branches is already much less. Instead of making such changes in banker’s lifestyle, SBI should make efforts to ease of doing transactions digitally for their customers.
to open the branches on Sunday
this approach is feasible in rural branches because in urban or metro every person wants to enjoy the Sunday and to get together with his family
