SBI announced ZERO vacancies for clerks in Kerala, CPI (M) Leader asks Bank to review vacancies

CPI(M) Rajya Sabha leader John Brittas has asked State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty to urgently review the bank’s decision to announce zero vacancies for Kerala in the 2026 recruitment of Junior Associates (Customer Support and Sales).

Recently, SBI had released vacancies for the post of Clerks. A total of 7,680 fresh vacancies were announced, but zero vacancies were announced for Kerala.

Brittas pointed out that SBI had announced 247 vacancies for Kerala in the previous recruitment cycle and 426 vacancies in the 2024 recruitment cycle. He said the reduction from 426 to 247 and then to zero within two recruitment cycles was more than a normal change in vacancy numbers.

Brittas also highlighted that the number of SBI vacancies across the country has increased this year. SBI announced 7,680 regular vacancies in the current recruitment compared with 5,180 regular vacancies in the previous recruitment.

He said that despite the increase in vacancies at the national level, Kerala received no vacancies. According to him, this raises concerns about the reduction in recruitment opportunities available to candidates from the state.

Brittas also referred to the ongoing IBPS Customer Service Associate recruitment. The recruitment has announced 11,403 vacancies across the country, but only 108 vacancies are available for Kerala across 11 participating public-sector banks.

He said the situation represents a major reduction in opportunities for candidates from Kerala through the two main clerical recruitment channels in public-sector banking, namely SBI and IBPS.

He has requested SBI to review whether the Kerala vacancies were left out or were not properly assessed. If any vacancies were omitted, he suggested that the bank issue a corrigendum or supplementary notification so that eligible candidates from Kerala get a fair opportunity to participate in the current recruitment cycle.
