Jitender Siwach, State Secretary of the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (Haryana), said that around 2 million bank employees across the country and their families are waiting for the government’s decision on the five-day banking week. The association said that declaring all Saturdays as holidays would provide much-needed relief to bank employees and help them maintain a better work-life balance.

The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), which represents bank managements, submitted a proposal on July 12, 2023, to declare all Saturdays as banking holidays. The delegation said the IBA’s recommendation was also recorded in the 12th Bipartite Settlement and 9th Joint Note signed on March 8, 2024. However, the government has not yet implemented 5-day banking.
