Ramakrishnan Chander Appointed LIC’s Chief Investment Officer Till September 2027

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has appointed Ramakrishnan Chander as its new Chief Investment Officer (CIO). He will continue in this role until his retirement (superannuation) on 30 September 2027. With this new position, Chander becomes one of the key senior leaders in LIC’s top management team.

Chander’s Background and Career at LIC

Ramakrishnan Chander started his journey with LIC in 1990 as an Assistant Administrative Officer, after completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management. He is also a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India, which reflects his deep knowledge and credentials in the insurance sector.

Over the years, Chander has held several important positions within LIC:

  • He served as Senior Divisional Manager in both Nagpur and Hyderabad divisions.
  • He was Regional Manager (Marketing) in the South Zone.
  • He also worked as Regional Manager (Pension & Group Schemes) in the South Central Zone.
  • Later, he became the Executive Director heading LIC’s International Operations, a strategic business unit responsible for overseas activities.
  • Most recently, before his new role as CIO, Chander led LIC’s Investment – Front Office operations.

LIC’s Legacy and Financial Performance

LIC is India’s largest life insurance company and has been offering life insurance products for over 65 years. It plays a major role in India’s financial and insurance sectors.

In terms of financial performance, LIC reported a 38.15% increase in standalone net profit, reaching ₹19,012.79 crore in the quarter ending March 2025, compared to the same quarter in March 2024. However, total income declined by 3.53%, totaling ₹2,43,386.15 crore during the same period.
