For the first time in a decade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage with representatives from the national level Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) of Union government employees and the Personnel Ministry. This significant meeting is scheduled to take place at the Prime Minister’s official residence on Saturday.

Invitation Extended

The Personnel Ministry has officially invited JCM Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra and other members of the staff side to discuss various matters. This invitation marks a rare opportunity for the staff representatives to present their concerns directly to the Prime Minister.

Key Agenda: Old Pension Scheme

One of the central topics anticipated for discussion is the restoration of the old pension scheme. Mr. Mishra indicated that the staff representatives had requested this audience to address unresolved issues, with the restoration of the pension scheme being a primary concern.

Ongoing Demands and Previous Actions

Earlier, unions representing Union Government and Central PSU employees had announced an indefinite strike planned to start on May 1. This action was postponed after negotiations with the government. The unions’ demands include not only the reinstatement of the old pension scheme but also halting the privatization and corporatization of PSUs. Additionally, there is a call to fill vacant positions across various departments within the Centre.
