In Delhi, the Government has not provided holiday to bank employees on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Raksha Bandhan is such an important festival, but Bank employees have not been provided holiday. Bankers are angry over this and have requested government to provide holiday on Raksha Bandhan so that they can also celebrate the festival with their families.
The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) has requested the Delhi Government to declare Raksha Bandhan on 28 August 2026 and Janmashtami on 4 September 2026 as holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 for banks in Delhi.
In a letter dated 11 August 2026, AIBOC addressed the Chief Minister of Delhi and requested that both festivals be declared NI Act holidays for the banking sector in the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
AIBOC said the festival is an important occasion that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters and brings families together. It pointed out that many banking employees have families and siblings living in different parts of Delhi-NCR or outside Delhi. Declaring the day an NI Act holiday would allow employees to spend the occasion with their families without having to choose between professional responsibilities and family commitments.
AIBOC also requested an NI Act holiday for Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Shri Krishna. The organisation said that Janmashtami is celebrated in Delhi with prayers, temple visits, devotional programmes, bhajans and other religious activities, with several celebrations continuing until late evening and midnight.
The officers’ organisation said that an NI Act holiday on Janmashtami would allow bank employees to participate in these religious and cultural celebrations with their families.
The request is now with the Delhi Government for consideration. If approved, Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami could be declared NI Act holidays for banks in Delhi for 2026.
