The Jhotwara Police in Jaipur have arrested two criminals from Madhya Pradesh who attempted to rob a Canara Bank branch. Thanks to the CCTV footage, the police were able to identify and catch the suspects, who belong to a shutter-breaking gang known for targeting houses, shops, and banks at night.
According to DCP (West) Hanuman Prasad Meena, the arrested men are:
- Girraj Sain (26), son of Santosh Kumar Sain alias Pappu, originally from Guna, Madhya Pradesh, currently residing in Joshi Marg, Jhotwara, and
- Kumer Singh Ahirwal (28), son of Shriram Ahirwal, also from Guna, Madhya Pradesh, currently staying at Ravan Gate, Kardhani.
Both are part of a professional gang involved in breaking shutters, house burglaries, and even digging tunnels or ditches to enter buildings.
The police revealed that the gang would first identify potential targets, like banks or shops, by riding around on bikes during the day. They often sat in parks nearby or rented a room to keep watch on the chosen location. Once night fell, they would wear masks and attempt to carry out the theft. The criminals also confessed that while working as laborers in homes, they used the opportunity to spy on nearby properties.
The Canara Bank branch targeted was located in Bhoomiya Nagar, Jhotwara. On the night of July 27, the suspects broke the shutter of the bank and entered through the channel gate. Their main goal was to break into the strong room (treasury).
Ravneet Kaur (35), the Senior Bank Manager, filed a complaint with Jhotwara Police Station the next morning. According to the complaint, the robbers attempted to break the lock of the strong room but failed after several efforts. Fearing they might be caught, they fled the scene.
The CCTV footage from the bank played a key role in identifying the robbers. Around 11:56 PM, two masked individuals were seen. One was breaking into the bank and entering into the bank, while the other stood outside on lookout duty.
The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released sooon.
