In a shocking incident that took place in broad daylight, armed men tried to rob a branch of Bank of India in Mahagama area of Jharkhand’s Godda district on Monday. However, their plan failed due to the quick action taken by bank staff and security measures. During the incident, a security guard was injured after being shot.
How the Incident Happened
According to police officials, four armed men entered the Bank of India branch located at Kenchua Chowk in Mahagama. As soon as they entered the bank, they fired at least two rounds to create panic among customers and staff members.
Eyewitnesses said that the attackers also tried to snatch the service weapon of the bank’s security guard, Vinod Kumar Singh. During the struggle, the guard was shot and injured.
He was immediately given first aid and later taken to Sadar Hospital for further treatment. Doctors have said that his condition is stable.
Quick Action by Bank Staff
Bank officials said that after hearing the gunshots, the bank manager and staff quickly activated the emergency alarm system. They immediately secured the locker section and blocked access to the cash counter and locker rooms.
Because of these quick actions, the robbers were unable to access any cash or valuables.
When they realised that security had been tightened and staff were alert, the criminals fled the spot while firing shots.
