Thieves attempt to loot Bank of India ATM second time in a Week in Hathras UP

Hathras, Uttar Pradesh: On the night of November 25, thieves tried to break into an ATM located outside the Bank of India branch on Hathras Road, near Pant Square in Sikandrarao, Hathras. They attempted to cut the ATM at two places using a gas cutter, but failed.

Bank manager Bhuvnesh Kumar said that around 9:51 p.m., three young men arrived on a motorcycle and stopped outside the bank. He also mentioned that the vendor company is responsible for maintaining the CCTV cameras installed in the ATM. The Kotwali police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) from Hathras reached the spot. CO JN Asthana and Kotwali Inspector Shivkumar Sharma also arrived.

The CO said that the investigation showed the thieves used a nearby electricity source to power the gas cutter. Pieces of 10 welding rods were found inside the ATM cabin. The thieves tried to cut the locks of the ATM at two points but could not succeed. There were ₹81,000 in the ATM that night. The SOG team is reviewing the bank’s CCTV footage. However, the bank’s CCTV only covers the bank premises, not the ATM area. The footage from the ATM’s CCTV camera is being requested from Mumbai by the vendor company.

This ATM has been targeted for the second time in a week. Last Tuesday night, thieves also tried to cut the ATM but failed. In both attempts, the thieves could not cut open the machine using the gas cutter. The ATM is operated by a private company named ITS. There is no security system installed on the ATM, and it remains unguarded at night.

This incident has raised serious questions about the security system of Bank ATMs. Banks need to upgrade the security of ATMs. This is the second incident in a week and shows serious lapses in enhancement of security.
