What is Stock?

A stock or share means a small ownership part in a company. When a person owns shares of a company, he becomes a shareholder and gets a small ownership in that company.

If the company performs well and share price increases, then employees will get benefit. If company underperforms, then share price will decrease and employees will suffer loss.

Companies often give shares to employees as rewards so that employees also benefit if the company performs well in the future.

What is Face Value?

Face value is the original nominal value of one share decided by the company. In this case, one ICICI Bank share has a face value of ₹2.

This does not mean the market price of the share is ₹2. The actual market price of ICICI Bank shares in the stock market is much higher and changes daily based on demand and supply.

Face value is mainly used for accounting, stock splits, dividend calculations, and company records.

When employees sell the shares, they will sell them at the current market price of the share, not at the ₹2 face value. For example, if ICICI Bank share price in the stock market is around ₹1264 at the time of selling, then the employee can sell the shares at around that market price.

If the market price later increases to ₹1500, then they can sell at ₹1500. If the market price falls to ₹1100, then the shares will be sold near ₹1100.

The ₹2 face value has no role in the selling price in the stock market. It is only an accounting and legal value mentioned by the company. The actual buying and selling always happens at the market price decided by demand and supply in the stock market.
