On May 14th, HDFC Bank, the largest private sector lender in the country, unveiled its first virtual credit card called PIXEL, which operates on Visa’s network. The card comes in two variations: PIXEL Play and PIXEL Go, allowing users to customize their own cards with personalized benefits and offers.

To obtain these cards, customers can register through HDFC Bank’s PayZapp mobile application, which offers digital management capabilities. According to a press release from the bank, PayZapp will provide credit card users with various features such as card controls, rewards, EMI dashboard, notifications, statements, repayments, disputes, hotlisting, and recent transactions.
The digital credit card will support both swipe-to-pay and tap-to-pay functionalities, as stated by the bank.
Parag Rao, the Country Head for Payments, Consumer Finance, Digital Banking, and Technology at HDFC Bank, mentioned that while the card is currently available on the Visa network, they have plans to introduce it on other networks in the near future.
In January 2024, HDFC Bank achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first bank to surpass 2 crore credit cards-in-force. The bank initially entered the credit card business in 2001 with the launch of its first credit card and reached the mark of 1 crore cards-in-force in 2017. In just six more years, they doubled this number to 2 crore cards.
