The Central Government has appointed Shri Janmejaya Kumar Sinha, Shri Syed Akbaruddin and Ms. Annie George Mathew as part-time, Non-official Directors on the Central Board of Reserve Bank of India for a period of four years with effect from August 24, 2026 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Smt. Annie George Mathew
Smt. Annie George Mathew has recently retired as Special Secretary Expenditure from the Ministry of Finance, Govt of India. She has over 34 years’ experience in areas of Public Finance, Financial Management, Government Audit and Accounts, Public Procurement including Defence Capital Acquisitions, Human Resource Management, etc.
She was the Government’s nominee on the Boards of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). She has served earlier on the Board of State Bank of Hyderabad.
She is an officer of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA & AS) of the 1988 Batch. She has a varied experience in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department through her postings within the country and abroad. She has also led audit teams working with different international and multi-lateral organizations like the United Nations, UNHCR in Europe, Africa and Asia. She has been member of International Standards laying Committees on Auditing.
She graduated from Miranda House and completed post graduation from University of Delhi and thereafter joined the civil services as an IA&AS officer.
Shri Janmejaya Kumar Sinha
Sinha, who began his career at RBI, advises govt on structural reforms and economic transformation. He was a private-sector member of the Rajiv Gauba-led reform panels for Viksit Bharat 2047.
Shri Syed Akbaruddin
Syed Akbaruddin is a retired Indian diplomat from 1985 batch of the Indian Foreign Service and served as India’s permanent representative at the United Nations at New York from January 2016 to April 2020. He had previously served as official spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs from January 2012 to April 2015 and was Indian representative at IAEA from 2006 to 2011. He is currently serving as the dean of Kautilya School of Public Policy.
