DFS Secretary reviews performance of PSU Banks wrt Financial Inclusion

Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, chaired a review meeting with heads of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Senior officers of Private Sector Banks on 29.4.2026.



DFS reviewed bank wise progress for various financial inclusion schemes, including PMJDY, Mudra, PMJJBY, PMSBY, PMSVANidhi, and Vishwakarma and PM SuryaGhar Muft Bijlee Yojana.
Secretary DFS urged banks to expand branches in unbanked villages, especially in the North East, resolve infrastructure issues with states, and adopt vernacular digital tools for last mile reach.
Secretary DFS lauded banks’ efforts in area of financial inclusion, highlighting the MUDRA scheme as a global succes and its mpact in rural and semi-urban areas, empowering entrepreneurship, reducing reliance on informal lending, and encouraging direct credit access through banks, while urging private banks to prioritize marginalized communities and actively engage in SLBC, DCC, and DLCC forums to ensure meaningful financial inclusion.
