PNB Locker Theft: In a shocking incident, a woman and her daughter were arrested by the Delhi Police last week for allegedly stealing gold, diamond ornaments, and other valuables from a bank locker. The incident occurred after the women were mistakenly given the wrong locker key by officials of a government-run bank.
How It All Started?
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed on September 5, Yash Paul, a long-time customer of Punjab National Bank in Jangpura, reported that his valuables were stolen from his locker. Paul stated that he has had a bank account with this branch for over 20 years and also maintains a locker there.
In his FIR, Paul mentioned, “For the past couple of days, I had been visiting the bank to get the locker opened, but there was some issue with its lock.” On September 4, the locker-in-charge contacted Paul and informed him that a representative from Godrej, the company that made the locker, would come to fix the lock.
Paul said that his locker contained valuable items, including a gold bar, gold coins, a diamond set, and important registry documents. However, when the locker was finally opened, Paul was shocked to find that all his valuables were missing. He immediately raised the issue with the bank manager.
The Theft Uncovered
The bank manager revealed that on July 10, two women named Shashi and Aashi Ramani had approached the bank, claiming they needed to open their locker. They provided all the required documents and verifications, and the bank mistakenly opened Paul’s locker for them instead of their own.
A senior police officer explained, “Shashi and Aashi had a joint account in the same branch of Punjab National Bank. They were mistakenly given access to Paul’s locker instead of theirs.” When the women saw the valuables inside, they decided to take them, claiming the items as their own.
The Arrest
The police investigation found that Shashi, 55, is unemployed, while her daughter Aashi, 33, works at Amazon. After taking the valuables, they distributed the gold ornaments to multiple receivers, who are now also being questioned by the police. The officer added that bank employees, who stated that the mix-up was unintentional, are also under investigation to determine their role in the incident.
The case highlights the importance of stringent checks and safeguards at banks, especially when handling sensitive tasks like accessing lockers. The police are continuing their investigation to ensure that all parties involved are held accountable.

Either polices are being fooled or police is fooling public.
If this is the case, then how many such lockers of other bank had given access to others ( mistakenly)
It’s next to impossible to open another locker without its own key. Master key with bank official alone can’t open any locker without its other key which is with customer. There’s something more than what has been reported.
It’s impossible. Key of one locker unit can’t be opened in another locker unit.
Unbelievable statement issued by the Bank .How the two ladies got the key pertained to some other person’ s locker .Is it because of using some other key , original key with the customer has not worked when he tried to open the locker .
Customer key is unique. How could Shashi and daughter get hold of Yash locker key?
Bank can not open the anyone’s locker solely by its master key. Also, Bank can not be in possession of Yash locker key. It needs to have Yash key too. Then how can the locker be opened Police needs to investigate on this angle.
It seems Bank has misled the borrower and Police investigation
It is very strange how a locker can be opened without the locker key od Mr.Paul and by Bank master key.how the Bank gave him the key of Mr.Paul,it is not possible.The whole theory is not acceptable. The narrative given is completely impossible.
Bank can’t give access to locker other than that of the owner of locker, that too with original key & bank’ master key. Both keys needed, simultaneously, to open the locker. The charge with the bank is jointly with the customer. No other key will work. It is surprising & unbelievable that the bank has given access to another customer’s locker. There is something fishy. In depth inquiry is required to to bring out the truth.
The locker cannot be opened with any other key than itsown.
Bank has only Master key common to all lockers.

Strange it sounds like a fairy tail. How I can open other’s locker? One key is with the customer which is unique and master key with Bank!! It’s practically impossible to operate another’s locker without access to both keys!
