CBI Arrests Branch Manager And Field Officer Of Punjab National Bank For Accepting Rs.25,000 Bribe
The Central Bureau of Investigation has apprehended a Branch Manager and a Field Officer of Punjab National Bank in Bagpat, Uttar Pradesh, on charges of soliciting and receiving a bribe amounting to ₹25,000.
This incident came to light when a complaint was lodged against the two individuals on July 31, 2023. The complainant, who held a KCC account jointly with his grandfather, alleged that ₹4.95 lakh was sanctioned in the account, and the amount was disbursed to their savings bank account. However, the Branch Manager decided to withhold ₹50,000 without any valid reason.
Upon questioning the Branch Manager and the Field Officer about the withheld amount, they allegedly demanded an initial bribe of ₹35,000 to release the funds. Eventually, the bribe amount was negotiated down to ₹25,000.
Taking swift action, the CBI set up a trap and apprehended the accused while they were in the act of demanding and accepting the ₹25,000 bribe from the complainant. Subsequent searches were conducted at the residences of both individuals involved in the bribery case.
