Business Per Employee of PSU Banks increased but Staff Decreased, Check Bank Wise Data

Public Sector Banks are recently suffering from huge staff Crisis. Amidst this ongoing staff Crisis, a report has been released related to per employee business of PSU Banks.
The Business Per Employee (BPE) in public sector banks (PSBs) has increased by a good margin but the number of staff has not been increased. Let’s have a look at the bank wise business per employee.
- SBI’s business per employee rose to ₹13.23 crore in FY25 from ₹12.98 crore in FY24.
- PNB’s business per employee increased to ₹26.86 crore from ₹23.84 crore.
- BoB’s business per employee rose to ₹32.53 crore from ₹29.31 crore.
- UCO Bank: ₹24.35 crore (FY25) vs ₹20.93 crore (FY24)
- Canara Bank: ₹29.3 crore (FY25) vs ₹25.97 crore (FY24)
- Bank of India: ₹28.21 crore (FY25) vs ₹25.87 crore (FY24)
This means employees are generating more business for the Bank which is ultimately leading to more profit for the bank.
But the number of staff in Banks has decreased.
- BoB: Number of Staff decreased from 52,374 in FY23 to 50,564 in FY25
- Canara Bank: Number of Staff decreased From 84,978 in FY23 to 81,260 in FY25
- SBI: Number of Staff decreased From 235,858 in FY23 to 232,296 in FY24
The number of staff is decreasing, the business per employee is increasing and the number branches are increasing day by day. For example, number of branches of SBI increased from 22,405 branches in FY23 to 22,937 in FY25.
