According to the bank’s Deputy Manager, Shashi Bhushan Kumar, the incident began when 2-3 men entered the bank pretending to inquire about opening a new account. They were asking about the required documents to create a distraction. Soon after, 6-7 more men entered, and all of them pulled out firearms, taking the bank staff and customers hostage at gunpoint.

Within moments, the robbers seized ₹15 lakh in cash from the bank counter and Gold jewelry worth around ₹5 crore from the bank’s vault. They also took away the mobile phones of all bank employees to prevent them from calling for help.

As soon as the robbery was reported, senior police officers including SP Ashok Mishra, SP Sanjay Pandey, Sumit Nagar, and police from the Mufassil Police Station rushed to the scene. The police have started their investigation and are checking CCTV footage to identify the robbers and trace their escape route.

Police said that an investigation is being conducted to find out whether the bank’s siren was working or not. Also, there was no guard in the bank. Information will be sought from the bank’s senior officer in this regard.

What’s even more alarming is that the bank is located in a busy market area with many shops right below it. Yet, no one outside the bank noticed anything unusual during the heist.

A local resident, Krishna Kumar, who runs a cyber cafe just below the bank, said he had no idea such a big robbery was happening above him. People in the area only found out about the incident after the police arrived.

Locals also pointed out a serious lapse in the bank’s safety system — no alarm siren went off during the robbery. This meant that even nearby shopkeepers and pedestrians were unaware of the crime while it was happening. There are also various reports that the majority of the Banks have removed Security Guards from branches. This means that the majority of the Banks are running without security guards.

The police are treating this case very seriously and have launched a manhunt to catch the culprits. As of now, no arrests have been made. The robbery has raised serious questions about the security arrangements at banks and how such a high-value crime could happen in broad daylight without any alert.

This incident is a wake-up call for both banks and law enforcement to tighten security protocols and ensure such events don’t repeat.
