A field officer from the Poora Viradha branch of Prathama UP Gramin Bank was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI on Friday for accepting a bribe of seven thousand rupees from a farmer. Currently, the CBI team is conducting a search at the officer’s residence. The officer will be presented in the CBI’s special court in the capital on Saturday. This incident has caused a stir among bank employees.
The farmer, Rahul Ahirwar, who resides in Gevera Gundara in the Purakalan police station area, had received a loan of five lakh rupees for animal husbandry from the Khadi Gram Udyog Department. As per the CBI, in the past few days, when Rahul went to withdraw 1.50 lakh rupees in cash from his account, the field officer named Anuj demanded a bribe of 18 thousand rupees in exchange for granting permission. Rahul lodged a complaint with the CBI in Delhi, which subsequently transferred the case for investigation to the Lucknow branch. After verifying the validity of the complaint, a trap team was dispatched to Lalitpur.
On Friday, the Lucknow team provided the farmer with seven thousand rupees mixed with special powder and sent him to the bank. There, he handed the money to the field officer, Anuj, through an intermediary. At that moment, the approaching team apprehended the officer, causing a commotion in the bank. The team informed the bank officials after securing the main entrance. A few hours later, officers from Jhansi also arrived at the bank.
