
On Thursday, February 15, 2024, Shri Narendra Modi, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, and Shri Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Mauritius, along with Shri Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Hon’ble President of Sri Lanka, and Shri Shaktikanta Das, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, virtually launched a revolutionary digital banking journey. This launch marked the introduction of India’s RuPay cards and UPI (Unified Payment Interface) connectivity with Mauritius and Sri Lanka.

The launch event was attended by several key participants. Shri Harvesh Seegolam, the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, and Shri P. Nandalal Weerasinghe, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, were also present to mark this historic moment.
Bank of Baroda Mauritius as the Sponsor Bank

Bank of Baroda Mauritius played a significant role in this initiative as the Sponsor Bank for payment settlement in the UPI and RuPay project. The bank issued QR codes for Mauritian merchants and enabled UPI QR scanning for tourists, facilitating seamless cross-border transactions and enriching travel experiences.
Convenience for Mauritian Tourists
Bank of Baroda Mauritius is ensuring convenience for Mauritian tourists visiting India by offering the UPI QR scanning feature in the bank’s mobile banking app, M-Connect Plus. Additionally, the bank has introduced new features such as MauCas QR Scanning, linking of local bank accounts, and government payments. The issuance of RuPay debit cards further enhances the convenience of transactions, allowing for ATM withdrawals, point-of-sale (POS) transactions, and e-commerce usage.
