Recently, the Bank of Baroda administration made the decision to transfer over 4000 officers, which has sparked countrywide protests organized by the All India Bank of Baroda Officers Association. On Wednesday, all 800 branches of Bank of Baroda in Rajasthan participated in protests, wearing black bands to show their discontent. These protests have continued in all branches on Thursday, June 13.

Reasons for Protests

The transfers have resulted in over 300 officers from Rajasthan being relocated to remote states, making it difficult for them to continue their work. The officers believe that the bank management’s decision to transfer them arbitrarily goes against the industrial agreement made with the recognized officers organization and violates the Trade Union Act. They argue that the bank management did not follow the provisions outlined in the agreed-upon policy regarding transfers.

Impact on Bank Operations and Employees

If the bank management does not reconsider the transfers and cancel them, the officers have threatened to intensify their protest and boycott work. This could lead to a standstill in the bank’s operations, affecting business worth crores. The officers are concerned about the impact these transfers will have on their families and personal lives, as they have responsibilities towards elderly parents, siblings, and children. They argue that it is not feasible for them to travel thousands of kilometers away from their families to work.

Protests and Demands

To express their dissatisfaction with the bank management’s decisions, staff members protested on Wednesday, June 12, in branches across cities and towns in Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Banswara, and Kota. The officers are demanding that the bank management consider the rules outlined in the Trade Union Act and adopt a more humane approach when making decisions that affect their lives. They feel that the bank management has ignored their personal circumstances and responsibilities.
