A gang of fraudsters operating in Ranaghat was apprehended by the police on Saturday. The group had been deceiving individuals by promising them jobs in private banks. One victim, Gopal Saha, received multiple calls offering him a job in January. The caller requested him to transfer money for training purposes, and Saha transferred Rs 2.1 lakh. However, when he reached the bank’s head office at Sector V, he discovered that the joining letter he had received was fake. The Bidhannagar City Police initiated an investigation and arrested two individuals, Swarajit Mondal and Monoj Mondal, in connection with the scam.

Connection to a Previous Fraud Case

In a separate incident, Abhishek Kumar Ram from Nadia was arrested for a similar fraud. Ram allegedly duped Suparna Saha of Rs 2.6 lakh using the same modus operandi last year. The police have been tracing the fraudsters’ phone numbers and bank accounts to determine the duration of their illegal activities. Additionally, they are attempting to identify other victims who may have fallen prey to the gang’s schemes in recent times.

Deceptive Tactics Used by the Fraudsters

The fraudsters employed various deceptive tactics to lure their victims. They created fake websites, email IDs, and phone numbers to appear legitimate. By sending fake appointment letters and identity cards, they gained the trust of job seekers who had uploaded their profiles and CVs on job portals in search of employment. The police are actively investigating this case and will work towards bringing justice to all the victims involved.
