A tragic incident took place in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, where a bank employee lost his life after trying to stop a fight between two brothers at a local salon. The police are treating the case as an unintentional or accidental death, and have taken both the brothers into custody for further investigation.
What Happened?
The victim, Somit Kumar, was a 46-year-old resident of Kundeshwari and worked as an assistant at Kashipur Urban Co-operative Bank. On Tuesday evening around 8 PM, he went to a salon near his home. At the time, the two brothers who run the salon were having a heated argument.
Somit stepped in, trying to calm the situation and stop the fight. But during the scuffle, he was hit on the chin with a sharp object. As he stumbled, he fell backwards and hit the back of his head hard on the ground, which caused a serious head injury.
Family Rushed Him to Hospital
As soon as the incident happened, his family was informed. They rushed him to the hospital in a critical condition. Sadly, the doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The police quickly responded and took the two brothers involved in the fight into custody. They also sent the body for a post-mortem examination to understand the exact cause of death.
What Did the Post-Mortem Report Say?
According to doctors who conducted the post-mortem, the fatal injury was not from the sharp object that hit his chin. Instead, the real cause of death was a fracture in the bone at the back of his head, which occurred when he fell during the altercation.
The post-mortem was done under video recording by a panel of doctors, which is a standard procedure in cases involving suspicious or accidental deaths.
Family in Shock and Mourning
On Wednesday, family members gathered at the post-mortem center, devastated by the sudden loss. They explained that Somit was only trying to help, and in the process, became a victim himself.
He leaves behind his grieving wife and two young daughters—Shrishti (22) and Riya (18)—who are heartbroken over the loss of their father.
Police Investigation Underway
For now, police believe that there was no intention to kill. The incident appears to be a case of accidental death during a fight between the brothers. However, a full investigation is ongoing to understand all the details.
The police are also checking whether the salon owners had any past history of violent behavior or if there were any other witnesses to the incident.
