How to set up bank account on WhatsApp and transfer money easily?

Whatsapp is the most popular messaging app that is used almost by every individual in India. Few times back, Whatsapp launched payment service on the app thus enabling users to transfer money across different banks in an easy manner.

Whatsapp UPI

WhatsApp payments uses UPI (Unified Payment Interface) to enable bank-to-bank money transfers. UPI is a national payment system developed by the NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), and supports most major banks in India.

WhatsApp uses the phone number associated with your account to identify your bank account information. You can send or request money using a UPI ID or UPI number. You can use your WhatsApp phone number as your UPI number to receive payments easily and securely from any UPI enabled app.

How to add Bank Account

You can send and receive money after you’ve added your bank account to WhatsApp. To add your bank account as a payment method, you’ll need:

  • An active account at an Indian bank that supports UPI (Unified Payment Interface). The primary phone number associated with this bank account must match the phone number of your WhatsApp account.

To add your bank account from Settings:

  1. Tap More options > Payments > Add payment method > Continue.
  2. If prompted, tap Accept and Continue to accept our Payments Terms and Privacy Policy.
  3. From the list of banks, tap the name of your bank.
  4. Tap Verify > Allow. If WhatsApp already has permission to make and manage phone calls, you won’t need to grant permission.
  5. Tap the bank account you want to add to send and receive payments with WhatsApp.
  6. Tap Add > Continue.

To add your bank account from Chat:

  1. Open a chat with the person you want to send money to. Tap Payments.
  2. Enter the rupee amount you’d like to send > Next > Get Started.
  3. If prompted, tap Accept and Continue to accept our Payments Terms and Privacy Policy.
  4. From the list of banks, tap the name of your bank.
  5. Tap Verify > Allow. If WhatsApp already has permission to make and manage phone calls, you won’t need to grant permission.
  6. Tap the bank account you want to add to send and receive payments with WhatsApp.
  7. Tap Add > Continue.
  8. Verify your debit card details, then tap Confirm.
