Bank Account Scam in Noida: Gang arrested for selling Bank Account of Labors to Cyber Frauds

Noida: The police have arrested three members of a gang involved in bank account fraud. The gang would buy bank accounts from unemployed individuals and laborers for Rs 500 and then sell them to criminals for Rs 12,000. They would also open accounts themselves and provide the account details to cyber criminals. The gang has confessed to opening the accounts of 20 people, but it is believed that they have opened accounts for over a hundred individuals and sold them to criminals. The police have recovered checkbooks, ATM cards, SIM cards, and cash from the accused.
Modus Operandi of the Gang
According to the police, the gang would approach unemployed youth and laborers and offer them Rs 500 to open a bank account. Once the account was opened, the gang would keep the account details, including the passbook, checkbook, ATM card, PIN, internet banking credentials, and the linked SIM card. They would then sell these documents to the leader of a cyber fraud gang for a significant amount. After receiving the money, the gang would give a portion of it back to the original account holders. The gang members claim that they were unaware of the fraudulent activities the accounts were being used for and had contact with the kingpin of the gang through mobile communication. The police are investigating the possibility of similar gangs operating in other cities as well.
Investigation and Future Actions
The police are currently interrogating the arrested individuals and are conducting raids to apprehend other members of the gang who are still at large. They are also investigating the criminal history of the gang leader and the arrested individuals. Additionally, the police are looking into the possibility of the documents and SIM cards being used for anti-national activities. It is important to note that the investigation is ongoing, and further details may emerge as the case progresses.
It is crucial for individuals who suspect fraudulent activity in their bank accounts to contact their bank immediately and report the incident. Keeping a record of all conversations with the bank and copies of relevant letters is also recommended. Victims should also consider contacting the main credit reference agencies if they suspect someone has applied for credit in their name. These agencies can help remove any fraudulent accounts or services from their credit file.
