There is an important update regarding the Aadhaar card. Under a new order issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the Aadhaar card will no longer be accepted as proof of date of birth. This information was shared through an official letter issued by UIDAI.

This means the Aadhaar card will continue to be valid as proof of identity, but it will not be accepted as proof of date of birth, even if the date of birth is printed on the card.

UIDAI said that the main purpose of Aadhaar is to confirm identity through authentication, not to certify a person’s date of birth. It also explained that the date of birth shown on Aadhaar is based on the details given by the user during enrollment or update.

UIDAI clarified that the Aadhaar card only confirms that the person using the card is the same person who originally enrolled for it. During Aadhaar authentication, biometric data and other registered details are matched with the central database. If authentication is successful, it only proves identity. It does not verify other details like date of birth.

UIDAI further said that Authentication User Agencies (AUAs) and KYC User Agencies (KUAs) can decide whether to use Aadhaar for age verification or date of birth purposes. The decision to use Aadhaar for welfare schemes, subsidies, or other government services depends on the concerned central ministries, state governments, and other agencies.

UIDAI also said that all forms of Aadhaar, including the physical Aadhaar card, e-Aadhaar, Masked Aadhaar, offline XML, and QR codes, can still be used as proof of identity and address, subject to certain conditions. However, Aadhaar alone is not proof of date of birth.

In another update, Google announced that users in India will now be able to securely store Aadhaar-verified credentials in Google Wallet. This feature will give users a secure digital option for identity and age verification in daily life.

Aadhaar Card is also a very important document for Bank Loans. Some times, Banks also consider Aadhaar Card as proof of date of birth. Banks should also be cautious now and not reply on Aadhaar card for date of birth.

In India, the most widely accepted and strongest document of proof of date of birth is the Birth Certificate issued by the Municipal Corporation, Gram Panchayat, or Registrar of Births and Deaths. It is commonly used for passports, legal matters, government records, and identity verification.

Another very common proof of date of birth is the Class 10th marksheet or matriculation certificate, which is widely accepted for jobs, competitive exams, college admissions, and recruitment processes.

Other documents that may be accepted depending on the purpose include Passport, Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Driving Licence, School Leaving Certificate, and government service records.

However, the document accepted as proof of date of birth can vary according to the department or institution. In general, the Birth Certificate is considered the strongest proof, while the Class 10th certificate is one of the most commonly used practical proofs in India.
