Can a Bank Suspend an Employee for Mentioning Their Employment on Facebook?
Generally, a bank cannot automatically justify suspending an employee merely because they have mentioned their employment with the bank on Facebook. However, the answer depends on the bank’s applicable service regulations, social media policy, the content of the profile and the circumstances of the case.
For example, writing “Working at ABC Bank” on your personal Facebook profile is different from publishing confidential customer information or claiming to speak officially on behalf of the bank.
