Two officers of Punjab & Sind Bank’s Bhogpur branch (B0084) were brutally assaulted by a borrower and his associates during a loan recovery visit in Jalandhar on October 28, 2026. The All India PSB Officers Union (AIPSBOU) has demanded immediate police action, medical support for the injured officers and their transfer on security grounds.
A few weeks ago, two branch managers of Punjab & Sind Bank had committed suicide, alleging toxic work culture. Now, this incident has again raised the question of staff security in Bank.
Shri Raj Kamal, Senior Manager, and Shri Manish Kumar, Agriculture Field Officer, both posted at the Bhogpur branch, were following up on the recovery of dues from M/s New Harjaap Material, a PNPA account. The officers had reportedly made repeated efforts to recover the outstanding amount, but no recovery had been made.
The officers visited the proprietor’s premises after working hours following verbal instructions from the Regional Office to pursue the recovery. During the visit, the proprietor allegedly refused to cooperate, used abusive language and called his associates. The proprietor and his associates then assaulted both officers, leaving them seriously injured.
Following the incident, both officers were admitted to CHS Kala Bakra Hospital in Jalandhar for treatment.

The AIPSBOU has demanded that a senior official from the Regional Office be deputed to help lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the proprietor of M/s New Harjaap Material and his associates for allegedly assaulting bank employees while they were on duty.
The union has also demanded that the bank bear all medical expenses incurred by the injured officers. It has asked senior officials from the Regional Office and Zonal Office to visit the hospital immediately. In addition, it has requested that the officers’ hospitalisation period be treated as special leave or duty.
The union has sought the immediate transfer of both officers on security grounds. According to the letter, the officers received threats of killing and lynching. The union said the borrower was locally influential and that the threats had raised serious concerns about the officers’ safety.

Considering their physical and mental condition following the incident, the union has also requested that both officers be allowed to return to their hometowns for at least one week. The letter stated that they were experiencing severe trauma and fear after the alleged assault.
Apart from demanding action in this case, the AIPSBOU has urged the bank’s management not to insist that staff members undertake field visits for loan recovery after working hours.
The union has called for immediate intervention by the Regional Office and urged the management to take necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of bank employees involved in recovery-related duties.
