According to a Haryana government press release, Mundeja planned the entire expedition independently from India before joining a trekking group from Pune for the journey. The trek required careful preparation, physical endurance and the ability to navigate difficult mountain trails at high altitudes.

The journey to Everest Base Camp is known for its challenging terrain, extreme cold and low oxygen levels. Trekkers must gradually adjust to increasing altitude while walking long distances through mountainous areas. Mundeja covered approximately 130 km on foot over nearly two weeks to complete the expedition.

His achievement is particularly noteworthy given his hearing impairment and the challenges of navigating an unfamiliar mountain environment. However, available reports have not provided details about the specific communication arrangements or adaptations he used during the trek.

Punjab National Bank shared the news on X, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the organisation. The bank said, “A proud moment for the PNB Parivar as Sh. Pardeep Mundeja, Chief Manager, Circle Office Karnal, successfully completes the Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek and proudly hoists the PNB flag at Everest Base Camp (5,364 metres).”

The bank added that his achievement reflected the spirit of resilience and the courage to turn ambitious dreams into reality. The recognition brought attention to Mundeja’s accomplishments beyond his professional responsibilities and highlighted his commitment to adventure and physical fitness.

Mundeja has been involved in adventure and fitness activities for several years. He is a Super Randonneur cyclist and has participated in running events organised by Procam, a company associated with several major running events in India. He has also received the National Award for Outstanding Persons with Disabilities, the newspaper reported.

His experience in cycling and running has helped establish his interest in endurance-based activities. However, the Everest Base Camp expedition presented a different challenge, requiring prolonged walking through difficult mountain terrain and adjustment to high-altitude conditions.

Mundeja credited his achievement to the continued support and encouragement of his family, colleagues, trekking team and Punjab National Bank, according to The Tribune. Their encouragement played an important role in helping him undertake and complete the demanding journey.

His successful expedition highlights the importance of preparation, perseverance and support in achieving challenging personal goals. By reaching Everest Base Camp and hoisting the PNB flag, Mundeja has earned recognition from his employer and colleagues for completing a demanding Himalayan trek.
