A case has been registered against two officials of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, over allegations of misappropriating Rs 1.80 lakh belonging to a farmer. The case involves the Kulpahar branch of SBI, where the farmer alleged that money deposited into his account was not fully credited. Following an order from the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Kulpahar police has registered a case against branch manager Neeraj Singh and former field officer Yatendra Singh. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
The complainant, Matadeen, is a farmer from Mohari Ladpur village, which falls under the Kulpahar police station area. He holds a Green Card account at the SBI branch in Kulpahar. According to his complaint, he deposited Rs 35,000 on one occasion and Rs 1.45 lakh on another, taking the total amount to Rs 1.80 lakh. He said he still has the deposit slips for both transactions as proof of the payments.
Matadeen alleged that when he later obtained his bank account statement, only Rs 10,000 from the total deposited amount was reflected in his account. He claimed that the remaining Rs 1.70 lakh was missing. The farmer said he repeatedly approached bank officials to resolve the issue, but did not receive a satisfactory response.
After his attempts to resolve the matter through the bank failed, Matadeen approached the local police station and the Superintendent of Police. When no action was taken, he filed an application before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, seeking legal intervention.
Acting on the court’s directions, Kulpahar police registered a case against Neeraj Singh and Yatendra Singh under Sections 316(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police said the investigation is underway and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected. The allegations against the two bank officials have not yet been established, and the matter remains under investigation.
