Canara Bank has favourably considered several proposals to improve career progression opportunities for Assistant Executive Officers (AEOs) and other Specialist Officers. One of the major decisions is the waiver of the mandatory CAIIB qualification for conversion to the Generalist Cadre. Eligible officers can now apply for conversion without having to complete CAIIB. This decision is expected to provide relief to officers who wish to move from the Specialist Cadre to the Generalist Cadre.

The bank has also agreed to provide promotion examination opportunities under the Generalist category to AEOs who have been promoted to Scale II and subsequently to Scale III. These officers will be allowed to appear in the promotion examination under the Generalist category in line with the bank’s existing practice.

In another important decision, the bank has agreed to provide a special one-time relaxation for AEOs and other Specialist Officers who have completed five years of service. Under this relaxation, eligible officers will be allowed to apply for conversion to the Generalist Cadre during the current year.

The last date for applying for conversion and the examination has also been extended to 15 October 2026. This extension will provide eligible officers with additional time to complete the application process.

The decisions follow representations made to the bank’s top management regarding the career progression challenges faced by AEOs and other Specialist Officers. The management has favourably considered the proposals, and a detailed memorandum containing the decisions is expected to be issued shortly.
