Kurukshetra: A case has come to light where a woman bank manager was tricked into investing 10 lakh rupees in a company by the lure of a 5% monthly interest rate. The complaint was filed by a female bank manager from Kurukshetra against a priest and two others, alleging fraud and various charges.
The complainant had hired Gurpreet, a resident of Sirsa, for some woodwork in her house, and due to familial connections, the entire family trusted him. About seven to eight months ago, during a peace ritual at her home, Gurpreet suggested bringing a priest for the ceremony, introducing Ajay Kumar, a priest from Panchmukhi Mandir near Karnal.
Due to Ajay Kumar’s religious talks, the family began to trust him. Ajay Kumar claimed to have been working as an agent for Meta Company for several years. He offered an investment plan where putting 10 lakh rupees in the company would yield a monthly interest of 5%. The complainant and her family believed Ajay Kumar’s words.
A working individual, Shiv Kumar from Sector-3 Kurukshetra, also interacted with Ajay several times at his home and at the bank. Ajay initially borrowed 1.28 lakh rupees for domestic work, and later took 1.25 lakh rupees in cash from Shiv Kumar’s house.
He discussed investing one and a quarter lakh rupees in the company. Ajay Kumar also started giving a monthly interest of 2.5 lakh rupees initially. This created trust in the complainant and her family. They then invested 4 lakh and 2.5 lakh rupees through cheques to Ajay Kumar for the company. However, the accused managed to convert these amounts into cash through fraudulent means.
After taking more than 9 lakh rupees, the complainant’s calls were no longer answered. The police have registered a case against Ajay Kumar, also known as Bhagat, a priest from Karasa village in Karnal, Shiv Kumar from Sector-3 Kurukshetra, and Gurpreet, a carpenter from Sirsa.
