Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services were disrupted across the country on Saturday (April 12, 2025). Many users across the country reported transaction failures. Soon the news spread across social media platforms.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates UPI, acknowledged the issue and confirmed that they were facing technical problems. “NPCI is currently experiencing intermittent issues, causing some UPI transactions to fail. We are working to fix it and regret the inconvenience,” the organisation posted on X (formerly Twitter).

This is the second such issue this month. A similar disruption in UPI services occurred on April 2, shortly after banks were dealing with financial year-end procedures on April 1.

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks service outages, problems began around 11:50 a.m. and peaked at 1 p.m., with over 2,300 users reporting issues. Around 81% of the complaints were about failed payments, 17% about fund transfers, and 2% related to purchases.
