A tragic incident has been reported from Union Bank of India on Sunday, September 27, 2026, a day when bank employees across the country were observing Black Day over being asked to work on a Sunday.
Shri Venkata Prasad, Branch Manager of Ranipet EAB Branch of Union Bank of India, Kancheepuram Region, Chennai Zone, died in a fatal road accident while he was travelling to his branch on Sunday morning.
The news of his untimely death has caused deep sorrow among members of the banking fraternity. Shri Venkata Prasad was serving as the Branch Manager of the Ranipet EAB Branch.
The Government of India had ordered the banks to remain open on Sunday due to upcoming 3-day strike from 28 to 30 September 2026.
This is the second death reported today. Neha Gupta, a Scale-II officer at the Regional Office, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, was working as the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Regional Head. While travelling back in an auto-rickshaw, she reportedly met with a serious accident and lost her life.
Neha Gupta had informed the concerned officials that she was unable to report to office on Sunday because there was nobody at home to take care of her child. However, she was reportedly forced to attend office despite informing the authorities about her family situation.
She eventually had to leave the office and return home because of an emergency. While travelling back in an auto-rickshaw, she reportedly met with a serious accident. She was taken to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Click here to read this news.
