A tragic incident has been reported involving a Union Bank of India employee who died in a road accident on Sunday, September 27, 2026, after reportedly being called to office for Sunday duty. According to the statement circulated among banking employees, Neha Gupta, a Scale-II officer at the Regional Office, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, was working as the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Regional Head.
Neha Gupta had informed the concerned officials that she was unable to report to office on Sunday because there was nobody at home to take care of her child. However, she was reportedly forced to attend office despite informing the authorities about her family situation.
She eventually had to leave the office and return home because of an emergency. While travelling back in an auto-rickshaw, she reportedly met with a serious accident. She was taken to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The incident has caused deep concern among employees and members of the banking fraternity. She was described by her colleagues as a young officer, mother and dedicated employee. Her death has also raised questions about the circumstances under which she was required to report for Sunday duty.
The Government of India had ordered Banks to remain open on Sunday due to upcoming 3-day strike from 28 September to 30 September 2026.
