Tripura introduces 5 Day Working for State Govt Employees
The Tripura government has introduced 5 day working for state government employees. As per the notification, office timings have been revised from the existing 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule to 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM on working days.
Earlier, only the second and fourth Saturdays were observed as holidays. Now, Government has declared all Saturdays as holidays.
Several Indian states follow a 5-day workweek for government employees, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Tripura, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Sikkim. In these states, state secretariats and administrative offices typically operate Monday through Friday, with Saturdays and Sundays off.
On the other hand, Public Sector Bank Employees have been demanding 5 day working for more than a decade but their demand is not being fulfilled.
A strike was also held in January 2026, but since then, the unions have not taken any serious steps to achieve their demands.
