Staff Working in Canara Bank commits suicide in Fazilka, Case Filed against Bank Manager
Punjab: A bank manager at Canara Bank’s Fazilka branch has been booked under charges of abetment of suicide following the tragic death of a local man, Inderjeet Singh, who had been working at the bank for the past 7-8 years.
The incident came to light when Seema Rani, a resident of Gandhi Nagar and Inderjeet’s wife, lodged a complaint with the Fazilka City Police. According to her, her husband died by suicide on January 4 after enduring repeated humiliation by the bank manager.
Allegations of Workplace Harassment
In her statement, Seema Rani claimed that Inderjeet had confided in her about the alleged harassment. He reportedly told her that the manager had been insulting him in front of other staff members for several days. She alleged that the constant humiliation pushed him to consume a poisonous substance that ultimately claimed his life.
Legal Action Taken
Acting on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the bank manager under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to abetment of suicide. SHO Lekh Raj of the City Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to Inderjeet’s death.
Family Seeks Justice
Inderjeet Singh’s grieving family has called for strict action against the accused manager and demanded justice for their loss. Meanwhile, the police continue to probe the matter to ascertain whether workplace harassment played a role in this tragic incident.
