The government on Monday has appointed Ravi Ranjan as the new Managing Director of State Bank of India (SBI). Before this, Ranjan was the Deputy Managing Director at the bank and succeeded Vinay M Tonse, who completed his term on November 30, 2025. Ranjan assumed the charge on Monday. The government has cleared his appointment up to the date of his attaining the age of superannuation, September 30, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, it said.

Profile of Shri Ravi Ranjan
Shri Ravi Ranjan is currently the Managing Director of the State Bank of India (SBI) from December 15, 2025. He oversees the Risk, Compliance, and Stressed Assets Resolution Group (SARG) verticals of the bank. Before becoming Managing Director, he worked as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of Global Markets for over a year and also served as DMD of the Corporate Accounts Group (CAG).
As Chief General Manager, he headed SBI’s Chennai Circle, which covers Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He also worked as President and Chief Operating Officer at SBICAPS in Mumbai. Earlier, he led the Retail Network as General Manager in Bengaluru. Shri Ranjan has completed two foreign assignments—one in Hong Kong, where he handled Debt Syndications, and another in Los Angeles, California. He joined SBI as a Probationary Officer in 1991 and has more than 34 years of experience in various areas of banking and finance.
