The recovery of stolen gold ornaments worth ₹13.61 crore from a daring robbery at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Rayaparthy mandal is likely to face delays, as one of the main accused, Sajid Khan, has reportedly fled to Nepal with the loot.

The Robbery

On November 18, a seven-member gang executed a well-planned heist, stealing 19 kilograms of gold ornaments valued at ₹13.61 crore from the SBI branch. The incident prompted the formation of ten special police teams to apprehend the culprits.

Arrests and Partial Recovery

Within two weeks, the police successfully arrested three members of the gang and recovered 2.52 kilograms of gold ornaments worth ₹1.84 crore. Recently, the alleged mastermind of the robbery, Mohammad Nawab Hasan, was also arrested. During interrogation, Hasan revealed that his brother, Sajid Khan, had escaped to Nepal with the proceeds from selling the stolen gold.

Gold Sold Across Multiple States

The police suspect that the stolen gold was sold to jewellers in various parts of Mumbai and Badaun in Uttar Pradesh. Sajid reportedly used the money collected from the jewellers to fund his escape to Nepal, traveling through Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

Investigations Continue

A police team is currently stationed in Kakrala, Sajid’s native village in Uttar Pradesh, to gather information about his movements. Another investigation team is working on recreating Sajid’s escape route using advanced technology to track his journey from Maharashtra to Nepal.

Authorities remain hopeful about recovering the remaining gold, but the task has become more challenging due to Sajid’s cross-border escape. Efforts are ongoing to trace his whereabouts and bring the culprits to justice.
