A retired woman employee of State Bank of India (SBI) in Ambala, Haryana, fell victim to a fraud and lost a substantial amount of money. Neelam Rani, a resident of Moti Nagar in Ambala City, shared her unfortunate experience.

On March 8, Neelam Rani was at home when she needed to change her Human Resources Management System (HRMS) ID. She dialed the customer care number from her phone, hoping to get assistance with the issue. However, she was unable to connect with a representative. Around the same time, she started receiving calls and messages from different numbers.

The initial caller, who turned out to be a fraudster, asked Neelam Rani about her problem and offered to help her. Engaging her in conversation, the fraudster managed to gain access to her phone. Taking advantage of this access, the fraudster proceeded to withdraw money from her SBI account.

First, the fraudster broke a fixed deposit (FD) worth Rs 5 lakh from Neelam Rani’s account. The full amount was then withdrawn in cash. Additionally, Rs 18,400 was withdrawn from her account. Upon realizing what had happened, Neelam Rani informed one of her relatives about the fraudulent activity.

The relative promptly checked Neelam Rani’s account and discovered that a total of Rs 5.18 lakh had been fraudulently withdrawn. To take immediate action, they contacted Dial 1930, which is the helpline number provided by SBI. They reported the fraudulent activity and sought assistance from the bank.

In response to the complaint, the Cyber Police Station of Ambala Police registered a case against the unknown perpetrator and initiated an investigation into the matter. Authorities will work to uncover the identity of the fraudster and bring them to justice.

It is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant and cautious when sharing personal information or engaging in financial transactions over the phone.
