SBI Death Claim: SBI settled death claim of alive customer, MPHRC orders police to investigate
Badnawar: Chandrakanta Sharma from Badnawar recently got her fixed deposit (FD) amount back, thanks to the intervention of the MP Human Rights Commission. The issue arose due to a mix-up caused by another person with the same name, which led to her FD being mistakenly paid out to someone else.
Chandrakanta had been struggling to retrieve her deposited money, which she needed for her granddaughter’s wedding. Despite multiple visits to the bank, her attempts to withdraw the funds were met with frustration. The bank officials informed her that her FD had already been paid out to her relatives, who were supposedly acting on behalf of the deceased Chandrakanta with the same name.
Confused and distressed, Chandrakanta, who is very much alive and had regularly updated her FD over the years, brought the issue to the attention of the MP Human Rights Commission. She showed the original FD documents and explained that she had visited the bank multiple times for renewals. Despite presenting all the evidence, the bank initially refused to acknowledge the mistake.
Chandrakanta also escalated the issue to the regional manager and reached out to the Progressive Pensioners Association, given her background as a retired employee from the Women Education Department. The Commission took prompt action and on February 21, sought responses from the Collector and Superintendent of Police Dhar regarding the investigation into the matter.
Following the Commission’s intervention, the bank was forced to reassess the situation. They discovered that the FD had indeed been mistakenly paid out due to the confusion with the name. The bank then took corrective measures, retrieving the amount paid to the wrong party and depositing the correct FD amount back into Chandrakanta Sharma’s account.
Thanks to the efforts of the MP Human Rights Commission, Chandrakanta Sharma’s persistence and the bank’s eventual corrective action, the matter was resolved, and she received the money she was rightfully owed.
