Sanjay Joshi Recommended as CMD of Oriental Insurance Company, Know About Him

The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) has recommended Sanjay Joshi for the top position of Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) at Oriental Insurance Company Limited (OICL). This announcement was made on Friday, May 2, 2025.

This recommendation comes after the retirement of R.R. Singh, who was a direct recruit officer from the 1987 batch of Oriental Insurance. Singh retired in February 2025, leaving the CMD position vacant.

The Oriental Insurance Company Ltd. (OICL) is an Indian public sector insurance company owned by the Government of India and administered by the Ministry of Finance.

Acting CMD Appointed for Interim Period

While the search for a permanent CMD was underway, the government had earlier appointed Amit Misra, Executive Director of Oriental Insurance, as the acting CMD. Misra has been leading the company temporarily since March 1, 2025, with a three-month term.

Who is Sanjay Joshi?

Sanjay Joshi is currently serving as a General Manager at United India Insurance Company. He joined the insurance sector as a direct recruit officer from the 1989 batch and has over 30 years of experience in the general insurance industry.

During his career, Joshi has held various important roles. He has worked as a branch head and divisional head in different regional offices across India. He also worked at the Large Corporate Cell (LCC) in Delhi, where he handled large corporate clients.

Apart from these roles, Joshi has served as the Deputy General Manager at the company’s head office and has also taken responsibility as the Chief Grievance Officer, looking after customer complaints and grievance redressal.

Educational Background and Qualifications

Sanjay Joshi has a strong academic background. He holds a postgraduate degree in Environmental Sciences and also completed a postgraduate diploma in Marketing Management. In addition, he is a Fellow Member of the Insurance Institute of India, showing his professional expertise and commitment to the insurance field.
