An attempted robbery took place at the Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch located in Indira Market, one of the busiest areas in Barabanki city. On Monday morning, bank employees discovered that both the main door and a side door of the bank had been broken. The incident occurred while the bank was closed for the Diwali holiday, which lasted four days.

Discovery of Vandalism
When the bank staff arrived to open the branch, they were shocked to find the doors damaged, with pieces of cement and plaster scattered around. The bank is situated on the top floor of a two-story building near the Chhaya intersection, surrounded by shops that stay busy until late at night. The news of the break-in quickly reached the police, prompting a rapid response from multiple police stations, including the crime branch and two area officers who were assigned to the investigation.
Police Investigation Underway
Local police officials, including City Officer Sumit Tripathi and Sadar Officer Harshit Chauhan, immediately began investigating the scene. They started reviewing CCTV footage from both the bank and nearby shops to gather evidence. Reports suggest that the robbers managed to access the locker area but were unable to break into it. In addition to the police officers, teams of fingerprint and forensic experts were deployed to assist in the investigation.
Lack of Security at the Bank
An important detail in this case is that the bank did not have a night security guard on duty. This lack of security may have made it easier for the robbers to attempt the break-in. The police are now examining the CCTV footage in hopes of identifying the suspects involved in the incident.
Statements from Authorities
After the incident was reported, a heavy police presence was established at the bank. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) North, Chiranjeevi Nath Sinha, confirmed that the manager of Punjab National Bank informed the police about the attempted theft. He stated that senior police officers and various units, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), surveillance teams, and a dog squad, were deployed to the scene to support the investigation.
Current Status of the Investigation
According to police reports, no money or equipment was stolen during the attempted robbery. Five police teams have been assigned to investigate the incident thoroughly. A case is being registered under the appropriate legal sections, and the authorities are working diligently to uncover who is responsible for this attempted theft.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police remain committed to resolving this case and ensuring the safety and security of the bank and its customers in Barabanki.
