A shocking incident has been reported at the Montha police station area of Jhansi. The incident has triggered public outrage after a woman, Pooja Verma, said that she was held hostage inside a private bank branch for nearly five hours over a loan repayment issue. The incident took place in Azad Nagar, Bamhrauli, and has led to a police inquiry into the actions of the bank staff.

The matter came to light when Pooja’s husband, Ravindra Verma, called the police emergency number 112, stating that his wife was being held hostage inside a private finance company’s branch. According to Ravindra, the bank staff had refused to allow Pooja to leave until he paid a pending loan installment.

He told police, “My wife was locked inside the bank from 12 noon. They kept insisting that she would not be allowed to leave unless I cleared the due amount. I pleaded with them and explained my financial difficulties, but they refused to listen. I had no option left but to call the police.”

Acting on the call, a Police Response Vehicle (PRV) team was dispatched to the location. As soon as the staff realized the police were on their way, they released Pooja before officers entered the premises.

Following the incident, Pooja Verma filed a written complaint at Kotwali Montha police station, detailing her experience and accusing the bank staff of illegal detention and financial misconduct.

Pooja explained that she had taken a personal loan of ₹40,000, with a monthly installment of ₹2,120. According to her, she had already paid 11 installments, but the bank was only acknowledging 8 installments.

Pooja said that on July 28, a recovery agent, Sanjay Yadav from Tikamgarh, Madhya Pradesh, came to her home to demand the pending dues. When she explained that she couldn’t pay, both she and her husband were forcibly taken to the bank and made to sit there for hours under pressure.

However, the bank has rejected all allegations. Branch Manager Anuj Kumar stated that Pooja had not paid any installments for the past seven months, and was simply called to the branch to discuss the matter. He denied any use of force, saying, “She came to the bank voluntarily along with her husband and sat here of her own will. No one forced her to stay.”

Police have confirmed that they are looking into the matter. A senior officer said, “We have received a written complaint from the woman. An investigation is in progress, and the conduct of the bank staff is being examined. If we find evidence of wrongdoing, strict action will be taken.”

The investigation is ongoing and more details will be released soon.
