Varanasi Police Commissioner Mohit Agrawal has sent a strong message to his subordinates by removing the in-charge of Dashashwamedh police station, Inspector Pramod Pandey, after allegations of misbehaving with a woman complainant. The action was taken after the woman visited the station to report a mobile theft case. Commissioner Agrawal also ordered a departmental inquiry against Pandey and directed that he be attached to the Police Lines. Inspector Yogendra Prasad has been appointed as the new in-charge of Dashashwamedh police station.
In a meeting held on Sunday evening, Agrawal emphasized the importance of treating complainants with respect and ensuring proper behavior by police personnel. He instructed officers to be polite and cooperative with the public, stressing that visitors to police stations and outposts should always be treated with courtesy and sensitivity. The Commissioner also warned police officers of strict action if they mistreated the public or failed to follow proper conduct.
Agrawal also focused on traffic regulation, especially in light of the upcoming Maha Kumbh and New Year celebrations. He directed police officers to prioritize traffic management, remove encroachments, and prevent roadside parking in busy areas. He stated that strict action would be taken against station officers who fail to manage traffic effectively. To address heavy congestion, additional police forces will be deployed, and alternative routes will be explored to divert traffic from main roads.
Further, Agrawal emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of traffic and instructed that one-third of the force at each police station be assigned to night patrolling. He also ordered intensive checks at hotels, dhabas, inns, railway stations, bus stations, and other crowded places, with the help of sniffer dogs and Bomb Detection and Disposal (BDS) teams.
Additionally, Agrawal instructed the establishment of four tourist kiosks in Kashi to guide and assist visitors. These kiosks will be located at key tourist spots, including Kaal Bhairav Temple, Namo Ghat, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Dashashwamedh Ghat, Assi Ghat, and Sarnath.
The meeting, attended by senior police officials, including Additional CP (Law and Order) S. Channappa, DCP Kashi Zone Gaurav Banswal, DCP Varuna Zone Chandrakant Meena, DCP (Traffic) Hridayesh Kumar, ADCPs, ACPs, and station in-charges, concluded with a clear directive to ensure law and order, traffic regulation, and public safety during the upcoming events.
