PNB MD&CEO urges Management not to call Officers on Holidays
The MD & CEO of Punjab National Bank has once again reiterated his stand on holiday working. He urged the bank management not to call staff to work on holidays.
In India, the practice of calling bank staff on holidays is increasing. According to reports, this is sometimes done only to satisfy the ego of senior officials.
This practice must stop as it deprives officers of proper work-life balance and adequate rest.The workload in banks has increased significantly, making it imperative to provide sufficient rest to bankers.
However, in some cases, it has been reported that bankers are working continuously for 15 days without a break. This situation needs to change.
On 5th May, while announcing the plethora of benefits for PNB employees, the MD&CEO also urged the staff not to work on holidays.

This is not the first time he has announced this decision. Earlier in February 2025, Punjab National Bank (PNB) MD Shri Ashok Chandra addressed a town hall meeting in Mumbai, where he shared an important message about respecting holidays and personal time.
During his speech, he revealed that for the past 10–11 years, he has never worked on a Sunday, nor has he called any employee to work on a holiday.
He firmly believes that working on holidays does not add value to the bank’s business or profitability. Instead, he stressed that employees should be given proper time to rest and spend quality moments with their families.
This decision by the MD has been widely appreciated by employees, as banking is a demanding profession that often requires long working hours.
By discouraging work on holidays, he is setting a great example of leadership that values employees’ well-being.Work-life balance is crucial for maintaining mental and physical health, increasing productivity, and improving overall job satisfaction.
Many studies have shown that employees who get enough rest perform better at work and are more motivated.
The MD’s advice to all Circle Heads (CHs) and Zonal Managers (ZMs) was clear—do not call employees for duty on holidays. He said that authorities call staff to work on holidays just to satisfy their ego.
Earlier, Union Bank MD&CEO had also instructed employees to leave office by 6:30 pm for better work life balance. The MD&CEO had instructed staff to complete branch work by 6:00 pm and leave the branch by 6:30 pm.
PNB reports profit of Rs.16,904 crore
Punjab National Bank has reported a net profit of Rs.16,904 crore as of 31 March 2026. Amidst the outstanding performance of the Bank, the board has enhanced the facilities offered to employees.
The Bank has increased the amount for SFF facilities and silver jubilee award. Moreover, PNB has decided to absorb Tax on Perquisites. Officers of PNB upto Scale III will also get PLI upto 15 days.

Silver Jubilee Award
Now, the amount of the Silver Jubilee Award to the Employees of the Bank completing 25 Years of service is increased from ₹10,000/- to ₹25,000/-. The award to be presented in the form of an article like wristwatch, silver salver or any other article of employee’s choice worth ₹25,000/-.
Tax on Perquisites
Bank will continue to bear 100% of TDS liability on perquisite value of interest free loans and loans at concessional rate of interest for FY 2026-2027.
PLI
Based on the performance of the Bank on the parameters and metrics as decided by the Board on which Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) for employees up to Scale III is calculated, the competent authority has approved for payment of 15 days salary (Basic + DA) as Performance Linked Incentive for FY 2025-26 to all the employees up to Scale III.
