PNB Has Rs 1.37 Lakh Crore Corporate Loan Pipeline, Says CEO Ashok Chandra
Punjab National Bank (PNB) expects strong growth in corporate loans in the coming quarters, supported by a large pipeline of approved loans that are yet to be disbursed. PNB Managing Director and CEO Ashok Chandra said the bank is seeing healthy demand from companies across various sectors.
Corporate Loan Pipeline Reaches ₹1.37 Lakh Crore
According to Ashok Chandra, PNB currently has a corporate loan pipeline of ₹1.37 lakh crore waiting to be disbursed. This includes around ₹78,000 crore of loans approved in the previous quarter (Q4 FY26) but not yet released. In addition, the bank sanctioned another ₹59,000 crore of corporate loans during the April–June quarter, which are also awaiting disbursement.
Strong Demand from Key Sectors
The CEO said the bank is on track to sanction more than ₹4 lakh crore in corporate loans during the current financial year. He added that demand for loans remains strong, especially from sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, airports, roads and data centres.
PNB Confident of Meeting FCNR-B Deposit Target
PNB is also confident of achieving its target of raising $2.5 billion through Foreign Currency Non-Resident Bank (FCNR-B) deposits by the end of September. So far, the bank has mobilised around $425 million and expects deposit inflows to increase in the coming months.
Ashok Chandra said the bank remains confident of crossing the $2.5 billion target.
Focus on NRI Customers
The bank is using its large Non-Resident Indian (NRI) customer base to attract more FCNR-B deposits. Existing NRI customers are helping the bank bring in new customers. PNB currently offers up to nine times leverage on FCNR-B deposits.
Public sector banks have been leading the mobilisation of FCNR-B deposits, with State Bank of India (SBI) also collecting a large amount under the scheme. Private sector banks have taken a more cautious approach due to market conditions.
Growth Remains the Main Priority
Ashok Chandra said PNB is not focused on becoming the second-largest public sector bank. Instead, the bank’s priority is to consistently achieve its business growth targets.
For the current financial year, PNB aims to achieve credit growth of 12–13% and deposit growth of 9–10%. The CEO said the bank’s board has prepared a five-year roadmap to improve its overall position among public sector banks.
He added that if the bank continues to achieve its growth targets quarter after quarter, its ranking in the banking industry will improve naturally.
