Paytm has introduced a new feature that lets users personalise their UPI IDs, making them look like a simple email address.
Before this, most UPI IDs were linked directly to a person’s mobile number, which made it easier for fraudsters to misuse. Also UPI IDs used mobile numbers which breached privacy of users.
Now Paytm has launched personalised UPI IDs. Users can create personalised UPI IDs of their choice and collect payments.
How to create Personalised UPI IDs on Paytm?
- Open the Paytm app on your phone
- Tap the Profile icon at the top-left corner
- Scroll down to UPI & Payment Settings
- Tap View to see your current UPI ID
- Create a new personalised UPI ID using letters and numbers
This feature hides your mobile number and makes payments safer. Earlier UPI IDs contained mobile numbers as shown in image below.
The update comes as regulators ask apps to tighten controls on payment requests, with stricter rules starting October 2. With personalised UPI IDs and stronger security measures, digital payments will become faster and safer for millions of Indians.
