A major fire broke out at the Bank of Baroda branch located on the Shakuntala University campus in Para, Lucknow, late Tuesday night. The blaze destroyed important documents, computers, and several office items. Firefighters brought the situation under control after nearly two hours of continuous effort.
Security personnel posted at the university noticed flames rising from the bank around 9:30 pm. They immediately raised an alarm, after which local residents rushed to the spot. People informed the fire brigade and tried to control the fire using available means, but the fire intensified quickly.

FSO Alambagh Dharampal Singh reached the spot with three fire tenders. The team faced difficulty initially because the bank was closed from all sides. Firefighters broke the windowpanes using hammers to enter the building and began dousing the flames. They also disconnected the electricity connection to prevent further damage. Because thick smoke had filled the bank, firefighters felt suffocated. The team was divided into two groups, and those wearing breathing apparatus suits continued the operation inside. After around two hours, the fire was completely brought under control.
How much Damage caused to Bank?
According to bank manager Himanshu, the estimated loss is around ₹12 lakh. The fire destroyed Government documents, Computers, Plastic furniture and equipment. However, the strong room containing around ₹6 lakh in cash remained safe. FSO Dharampal Singh said that the fire was likely caused by a short circuit, but a detailed inspection will be done on Wednesday to confirm the exact reason. A team will be formed to investigate the incident further.
Bank manager Himanshu said that due to the fire, bank operations will remain affected for the next three days. Account holders have been advised to visit nearby Bank of Baroda branches for their banking needs.
